Install
Ten minutes from an empty server to your first staff member. The mod needs nothing but the base game.
On this page
Before you start
The mod runs on the server and on every client that wants to use the tools. The server does all the work: every decision, every record and every file lives there. A client needs the mod too, because the key binding, the menus and the dialogs come from the mod. Players without it can still be warned, kicked, banned or jailed, since those reach them through the game’s own chat and disconnect screens.
It works on any scenario, Conflict, Game Master, Combat Ops or custom, with no scenario edits.
Add the mod to the server
-
Add the mod to the
modslist in the server’sconfig.json:"game": { "mods": [ { "modId": "903EC8E104CB7DDC", "name": "KOVA - Admin Tools" } ] } -
Start the server once. The mod creates a folder called
KovaAdminToolsinside the server profile (the folder you pass with-profile) and writes its settings file there. -
Make yourself the owner, below. You can do it while the server runs: the mod re-reads its settings about once a minute.
Tip. If you host with KOVA, the panel does the file work for you. Open the server, go to Mods, add
KOVA - Admin Tools, restart, and an Admin Tools tab appears under Admin with every setting as a form. You never need to open the file.
What the first start creates
| File | What it is |
|---|---|
KovaAdminTools_Config.json |
The settings. This is the one file you edit. |
KovaAdminTools_Config.example.json |
A copy of the defaults, for reference. |
KovaAdminTools_Config.last-good.json |
The last settings that loaded cleanly. Used if the main file is damaged. |
KovaAdminTools_Manifest.json |
A description of every setting, for the panel. |
KovaAdminTools_Heartbeat.json |
The time the mod was last running. |
KovaAdminTools_Roles.json |
Your roles as the server reads them, for the panel. |
The rest appear as they are needed. Files and records lists them all.
Note. The settings file is yours. The mod only changes a value in it when staff change a setting from inside the game, and then it re-reads the file, changes that one value and writes once. Keys it does not know are left alone.
Make yourself the owner
Every staff member is a member of a role. The first one has to be written into the settings file, or sign in with the server password.
Put your player ID in the owner role
Open KovaAdminTools_Config.json and add your Reforger player ID to the members of the owner role:
"roles": [
{
"key": "owner",
"displayName": "Owner",
"rank": 30,
"members": {
"0123abcd-4567-89ef-0123-456789abcdef": "YourName"
},
"permissions": [ "masterAdmin" ],
"chatTag": "",
"chatColor": ""
}
]
The key is your player ID, a UUID. The name after it is a note for you; the mod does not check it. The change is picked up within a minute.
Tip. Your player ID is in the server log on the line that records your join, in the audit file, on the panel’s player list, and later under Copy ID on the Player Lookup page.
Or sign in with the server password
If the server has a passwordAdmin in its config, press F11 in game and type that password into the login dialog. You then count as a member of the admin role for the session. Use this to get in once, then put your ID in the owner role so it sticks.
Both routes are explained in Getting around.
